In addition to ensuring daily vehicle inspections are completed and operate the company vehicles in a law-abiding manner, they are responsible for assisting the Foreman/In-Charge with all duties related to completing a build in a safe, efficient, & productive manner.
Major Duties Performed:
- Ensures trucks are inspected prior to use & upon completion of use
- Reports & documents all deficiencies to Foreman/In-Charge in a timely manner
- Ensures trucks are loaded/stocked with required tools/equipment/materials required for the daily build/tasks
- Ensures job site is kept clean & identify all possible safety hazards
- Ensures job build area is safely blocked from traffic & pedestrians
- Assists Foreman/In-Charge with all site related duties including but not limited to confirming what is needed & ensuring all materials & equipment required for daily tasks are in working order & safely loaded, flagging duties & build duties.
- Loads & unloads materials, tools & equipment; distributes to appropriate locations according to project plans & specifications
- Prepares job site for build; measures & marks out areas where construction work will be performed
- Reads & interprets plans, instructions, & specifications to determine work activities
- Roding conduits
- Operates jackhammers & drills to break up concrete or pavement while practicing safe trenching & digging methods
- Erects & disassembles scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps & other temporary structures
- Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement & adjustment of machinery, equipment, & materials
- Tends pumps, compressors & generators to provide power for tools, machinery & equipment
- Digs ditches or trenches, backfills excavations & compacts & levels earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers & rakes
- Shovels gravel & other materials into trenches
- Positions, joins, aligns & seals conduits
- Operates, reads & maintains air monitoring & other sampling devices in confined &/or hazardous environments
- Operates & cares for construction equipment & machines; lubricates, cleans, fuels & repairs machinery, equipment & tools
- Performs utility spotting when operator is excavating
- Identifies, packs & transports hazardous materials when required
- Ensure all certifications & licenses applicable to duties/tasks outlined in this job description are kept up-to-date & valid
Health & Safety Duties:
- Operates tools, equipment & machinery according to prescribed safety procedures
- Follows established safety procedures & techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in work areas & reports any conditions that are not correctable to Foreman/In-Charge immediately
- Completes FLHA daily upon arrival at the job site
- Abides by the Confined Space Entry procedures
- Ensures public safety around the job site (work zones)
- Abides by Berto’s Health & Safety Manual & WorkSafe BC procedures at all times
Job Requirements:
- 2+ years’ large truck driving experience, within the Lower Mainland
- Heavy Trailer Endorsement Certification
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
- Transportation of Hazardous Material certification an asset
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience using small power tools an asset

- Access to reliable transportation
Work Environment:
- Regularly works near moving mobile equipment in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat & humidity, & exposure to dust & asphalt
- Noise level may occasionally be loud
- Hazards associated with the construction industry including overhead & underground hazards
- Needs to be aware of other trades personnel working in the same job site
Physical Demands:
- The Truck Driver/Labourerr is required to stand & for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects on a regular basis & do repetitive tasks. Steel toed boots, hard hat & safety vest must be worn at all times.
Rate of Pay:
- $25 - $28/hr
