Project Manager

A Berto Project Manager is responsible foroverseeing the preparation, coordination and completion ofboth underground and aerial telecommunication builds. Theyare held accountable for building/maintaining predeterminedbudgets, monitoring supplies, collaborating withsubcontractors, scheduling the training and development ofnew crew members and ensuring industry standards are met.In addition to being an advocate in building/maintaining aninclusive/respectful culture in accordance with the company values. Apply Now

Major Duties Performed:

  • Responsible for all Civil Construction Managementdutieso
  • Assisting in the building of job estimate,review and validate subcontractorsscheduling, invoicing, materials, key projectdeliverables, planning and coordinatingwith various stakeholders
  • Completes As Builds with accuracy & withinestimated timeframe
  • Responds to and resolves concerns and queriesbrought forth by the public
  • Demonstrates and ensures all Health & Safetyregulations are followed in accordance withWorkSafe BC specifications

Project Management Duties:

  • Responsible for maintaining project estimates/budgets
  • Manages communication between design, construction and leadership team members
  • When required, works with the TMP & Permit Coordinator to ensure all permits and licenses required are in place
  • Schedules subcontractors, required equipment rentals o
  • Reviews and approves all subcontractor and program invoices
  • Interprets prints to ensure project specifications are known to team and subcontractors and that work is executed safely and in accordance with Berto Company standards
  • Conducts pre-field inspections to determine accessibility and specific requirements; follows up with customers, utility companies and property manager(s) as required
  • Monitor progress and make provisions to job cost reports, as required on active projects (including completion of change order requests)
  • Ensures timely change management
  • Keeps stakeholders up to date on the progress of projects/prepares progress reports, project completion emails
  • Completion and submission of Manhole Audits, as required by clients
  • Identifies and resolves potential roadblocks that may impact build schedule
  • Provides build overview and identifies areas of concern
  • Attends weekly scheduling meeting with clients, team, and project managers
  • Repair Program

On-Site Duties:

  • Conducts site checks to monitor progress and quality standards
  • Responds to on site issues

Public Relations Duties:

  • Responsible for notifications of upcoming job builds to community and stakeholders
  • Responds and resolves concerns and queries from homeowners, local businesses, and the general public

Health and Safety Duties:

  • Ensures all Health and Safety procedures and regulations are followed in compliance with WorkSafe BC standards and Berto Health and Safety manual

There will be occasions where the Project Manager will be asked to complete duties outside what has been outlined in their job description and may be required at times to work overtime.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Program
  • Familiar with Buildertrend (Project Management Software) an asset
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to motivate, coach and guide team members
  • Thorough and strong attention to detail

Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years related work experience in managing telecom or similar utility/civil/Hydro construction projects
  • 2+ years in a managerial/supervisory role
  • Completion or 2+ years in a Project Management discipline or equivalent certification, an asset
  • Strong understanding of construction principles and procedures
  • Confined Space Entry certification, an asset
  • Experience with Blue Beam and/or Auto CAD would be a strong asset
  • BC Hydro Civil Underground Certification (PSSP), an asset
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Good understanding of WorkSafe BC and the BC Employment Standards Act
  • Excellent knowledge of construction operations and equipment

Work Environment:

  • The office work environment is relatively quiet with other employees passing through the workspace on a regular basis.
  • While on the job site would regularly be working near moving mobile equipment in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat & humidity, & exposure to dust & asphalt
  • Noise level may occasionally be loud
  • Hazards associated with the construction industry including overhead & underground hazards
  • Needs to be aware of other trades personnel working in the same job site

Physical Demands:

  • Required to stand for extended periods of time while on job sites and sit/view a computer monitor for prolonged periods of time when in the office
  • Steel toe boots, hard hat and safety vest are to be worn when on job sites

Organizational Scope:

  • The Project Manager reports directly to the President
  • The Project Manager is a direct report for all external vendors, subcontractors, and clients
